Respiratory and Sleep

Our Respiratory and Sleep service offers comprehensive assessment and management of respiratory and sleep-related conditions, supported by extensive onsite diagnostics and advanced procedural capability. The team manages a wide spectrum of conditions including asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, pleural disease, lung cancer, and complex sleep disorders. Care is delivered with a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration, continuity of care, and clear communication with patients, GPs, and referring specialists.

Endocrinology

Our Endocrinology service provides specialist assessment and management of hormonal and metabolic disorders. This includes thyroid disease, diabetes, parathyroid and adrenal conditions, and metabolic bone disease. Care is individualised, evidence-based, and focused on long-term health outcomes.

Dermatology

Dermatology services provide specialist care for diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. The service encompasses both medical and procedural dermatology, including inflammatory skin conditions, complex eczema and psoriasis, acne, rosacea, hyperhidrosis, and skin cancer detection and management.

Geriatric Medicine

Geriatric Medicine services support older adults with complex or multiple medical conditions. Care focuses on comprehensive assessment, chronic disease management, and maintaining independence, function, and quality of life, often in collaboration with oncology and other specialties.

Dental Sleep Medicine

Dental Sleep Medicine services provide assessment and oral appliance therapy for sleep-disordered breathing, including obstructive sleep apnoea, snoring, bruxism, and temporomandibular joint disorders. Care is delivered in collaboration with Respiratory and Sleep physicians.

Medical Oncology

Our Medical Oncology service provides comprehensive, evidence-based cancer care across a broad range of solid tumour malignancies. The service has particular expertise in caring for older patients with cancer, ensuring treatment decisions are tailored to individual health status, function, and goals of care, while supporting patients through all stages of their cancer journey.

Radiation Oncology

Radiation Oncology services are delivered in close collaboration with Medical Oncology and Surgical teams to provide coordinated, multidisciplinary cancer care. Treatment planning is guided by contemporary evidence and clinical trials, with a focus on precision, safety, and optimising outcomes while minimising side effects.

ENT / Laryngology

Our ENT service includes specialist laryngology expertise for the assessment and management of complex voice, airway, and swallowing disorders. Conditions managed include chronic cough, inducible laryngeal obstruction, laryngeal hypersensitivity, and voice disorders, with close integration into the Chronic Cough Clinic.

Testing includes assessment of airway function, lung volumes, gas exchange, and functional capacity, integrated into broader respiratory and sleep care pathways.

Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy services include both diagnostic and interventional procedures, performed by experienced respiratory physicians. These procedures support the investigation of lung disease, pulmonary nodules, airway abnormalities, and infection, and are integral to lung cancer diagnosis and management.

Occupational Lung Health Screening

At South Australian Medical Specialists, we protect respiratory health through early detection and management of occupational lung disease, with a focus on workers exposed to respirable crystalline silica in industries such as stone benchtop manufacturing and construction.

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) is an advanced bronchoscopic procedure used to assess lymph nodes and structures surrounding the airways. It plays a critical role in the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer and other thoracic conditions and is delivered as part of a multidisciplinary lung cancer service.

The Chronic Cough Clinic provides specialist assessment for patients with persistent or unexplained cough. Our Physiotherapy service provides specialised cardiorespiratory and rehabilitation care for patients with respiratory disease and those undergoing major surgery. Speech Pathology

Speech Pathology services specialise in the assessment and management of laryngeal, voice, swallowing, and upper airway disorders. This includes chronic cough, inducible laryngeal obstruction, voice disorders, and swallowing assessment using advanced techniques such as FEES and videofluoroscopy, integrated within multidisciplinary care pathways.
